Prepare for interview

Prepare for interview

Developing techniques for interview success

Interviewing is both stressful and a challenge, but a challenge which can be mastered by successfully controlling anxiety and building confidence in responding to questions.

Course outline

This course covers skills for emotional management and innovative answering techniques to react to questions, with a unique twist of storytelling. Participants will learn how to engage the panel effectively and address the range of behavioural based questions.

Above all, they will learn how to look confident, feel competent and progress along their journey to becoming a successful applicant.

The course looks at first impressions and the impact you can have, and helps participants understand what the interviewers are looking for. Following the STAR answer model, it builds in storytelling elements, and helps participants to shape their responses to support the majority of behavioural or competency based question, helping them to stand out from the crowd.

Our skills coaches provide constructive feedback and guidance on vocal clarity and coach as required to improve the essential communication skills of pitch, pace and volume.

It will benefit any individual launching into the job market for the first time and anyone preparing for competitive interviews.

Learning activities

Participants take part in active voice workshops learning how to project their voice and articulate their sentences with confidence.

They will explore example based questions and how to link them to their own experience. Calling on the sessions key learning objectives they will then have the opportunity to prepare a personal statement to accurately summarise their ‘story’ in a creative and engaging way.
The workshop culminates in live interview practice, where participants have the opportunity to test their delivery and run, stop and re-start to perfect their response to a series of questions, growing in confidence and competence with constructive feedback from our skills coaches.

Outcomes

Participants will develop robust responses to core behavioural based questions and have the confidence to articulate their responses in an interesting and memorable way.

They will have a collection of examples to evidence their previous work experience, and an agility to blend these experiences into their responses.

Participants will also be able to present to their strengths, and the presence to think on their feet to answer the inevitable unexpected questions.

The sessions delivered to our new entrant MPharm students gave them an intense and stimulating experience which will enable them to participate more fully in their first experiential learning in a Pharmacy. The sessions were delivered in a highly professional manner, encouraging enthusiastic participation from the students. Feedback from the class has been overwhelmingly positive and we are exploring ways to extend this form of learning, tailored to each year of our MPharm programme.
