Graduate management development brought to life

Developing core skills of future leaders and managers

XPO Logistics operate an active graduate recruitment programme, harnessing high calibre talent to develop their business nationwide. To ensure individuals have the opportunity to continue their personal development and fulfil their potential, they run an intensive two day management development programme twice a year, designed to bring new starters together, share best practice and develop essential skills.

The problem

XPO believed that their graduate programme had become outdated, boring even, and were keen to give it a real injection of life. They felt that graduates could benefit greatly from a more hands on experience, with plenty of opportunity to put new learning into practice, building confidence to transfer new skills to their everyday roles.

The solution

RoleplayUK worked closely with XPO’s L & D team to develop an intensive learning experience, using drama based techniques to explore and understand individual communication styles. Forum theatre scenarios were used to demonstrate bad practice and provide a productive environment for participants to identify workable strategies to correct behaviours and work towards successful outcomes.

Working in smaller breakout groups participants then had the opportunity to practise their own conversations with a Skills Coach and receive individual constructive feedback on how to hone their own personal skills.

The Results

The one day workshop was extremely well received by the graduate participants and the L & D Team.

“Thank you so much for Tuesday – you are spot on!! The grads loved it. What a terrific session and such a great bunch of facilitators , who delivered a wonderfully interactive and engaging session.”

Christopher Dolby, Head of Talent Development XPO Logistics

“I thought Tuesday went extremely well. I have viewed the evaluation forms and the feedback forms and the feedback was very positive, so thank you. session.”

Rebekah Cox, Learning and Development Manager XPO Logistics
